China-U.S.A. Student Exchange Program

The U.S. China Culture Homestay Network (UCCHN) manages a non-profit, international program to promote youth cultural and educational exchanges between China and the United States. UCCHN is under the auspices of the U.S. China Foundation for International Exchanges, founded in San Francisco in 1986. Since its inception, the foundation has run more than 1,000 programs, including space camp and summer university camp, and its popularity continues to grow.

On UCCHN programs, high school students from various provinces of China come to different locations in the U.S. to visit historic places, such as Plymouth Rock and the Statue of Liberty, as well as world-renowned tourist destinations like Disneyland and Universal Studios.

Over the last several years, Futton, Inc. has arranged homestays with American families for hundreds of students from China.  Last year Futton arranged homestay visits of 11-14 days in two locations: Santa Cruz (on the coast of California), and Davis (in the central valley of California). The students attended half-day programs at the University of California, toured local attractions in the afternoon, and enjoyed dining and family activities with their host families. Two large groups of students, ages ranging from 10-17, from Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces were fortunate to come here and have the experience of a lifetime. Staying with an American family was universally regarded as one of the great highlights of the trip.

As cross-culture exchanges increase between the youth of China and the United States, much excitement has been generated from both the Chinese students who have visited the United States, and U.S. families who have hosted students. UCCHN endeavors to make it a great experience for everyone involved.
